2017-2018 Teacher of the Year

We would like to recognize his exceptional service and dedication to our students, staff, and families.

African-American History Month

Carter G. Woodson, famous African-American historian, journalist and author, would be pleased to know that his founding week of African American history and cultural recognition has expanded to an entire month.  He would be even more delighted that cultural diversity is discussed 365 days per year.

Meadowood has set the pattern of year round recognition by venturing to the National African American Museum in Washington, D. C. In October of 2017, students and staff were taken back in time to the slave trade, abolitionist movement, and the Civil Rights movement.  The museum has a plethora of more current exhibits such as from the arts and entertainment industry, athletics, and the Obama administration.

In honor of the efforts of Carter G. Woodson's determination to bring to light the contributions of persons of color, the students and staff of the Meadowood Education Center are proud to participate in numerous cross curriculum activities.  For example, students will individually create a work of art based upon a quote from an African American role-model such Dr. King, Lorraine Hansberry, Muhammad Ali, Oprah Winfrey, or Barack Obama.  An original composition of how the quote inspires the student will accompany each piece of art.
